Getting to Chioggia (Venice)

Hi, I'm having enormous trouble finding a way by train to Chioggia (Venice). Some rail sites don't even recognize the name! There should be a train from Rovigo, but I can't find it.
I would like to avoid having to go via Venice if possible. Grateful for any help....

There is only one train site, trenitalia.com/en.html, where you can put Chioggia as station name in the TO field.

I assume Chioggia is served only by local trains, enter a day of travel before June 9.

I've been to Chioggia from Venice, but I don't think there is a train between the two.
If you make Google maps really big, it certainly looks like there is a train line from Chioggia to Rovigo.
However, Chioggia is on an island, and it looks like (on Google maps much enlarged )that the train line that serves it stops on the mainland and you'd then have to go by road or boat over to Chioggia from the end of the line.
Anyone know?
We went by vaporetto from Venice to Lido, long bus ride along Palestrina, then a ferry to Chioggia.
It was a lovely trip out to where there are no tourists, but it took about two hours to get there.
Don't go at lunchtime, things close as it's a small town/area, and we had a hard time finding food to eat at that time of day.
I think there is a bus from Chioggia to Venice.

Now, after more looking, I found this article, which does indeed mention a train between Rovigo and Chioggia.
It might be a tiny local line where you would just buy a ticket and get on.
Why are you going to Chioggia, may I ask?

Thank you Dario, for your "I assume Chioggia is served only by local trains, enter a day of travel before June 9."
Yes, and indeed Trenitalia does offer a timetable for that period, but why not beyond?. But I will be travelling in September, and nothing comes up for then.

And thanks S.J., for your comments. I want to go to Chioggia because it is known as Little Venice, and I prefer the small variety of things. :-)

I guess I'll just go to Rovigo in September and take my chances...

Trenitalia won't put up R and RV trains this early. They will be there.

By the way - I've been to both. Chioggia on the way to Comacchio to see where my Dad was at the end of the war.

There's only one Venice.

Thanks very much, Nigel, that's good news. I'll doubtless take in Venice after Chioggia.

There's only one Venice.

The marinated eel sandwich made in Comacchio is just as charming as the all Venice. Sometimes more

but why not beyond?.

Because local trains have no reserved seats, they can't sell out and have no discounts for advance purchases; because The new summer/winter schedules are almost identical to the previous ones. In other words, because people take for granted that local trains always run like city buses always run. At the same Trenitalia knows that the 99.9% of its customers search the train schedules one week before the deadline, not 5 months in advance.

Thanks, Dario, and I'll watch out for that marinated eel sandwich!

hey Dario - good thing that my father never saw that photo - or at least never let my mother see it!!

It looks about the right vintage, eh? 40's, 50's, maybe 60's?

I think Loren is 20 years old in that pic, it must have been taken in the early 50s.

Oh, I didn't notice the link to the photo until you guys started talking about it! I haven't really understood what it's all about, but some gal, huh? (we're not keeping the subject in hand, though...)
