I am getting ready for a trip to Italy with a quick stop in Sicily for a few days. Has anyone taken the overnight ferry (from Salerno) or overnight train (back to Rome) either to or from?
We will be staying outside of Catania? I believe we will be renting our car in Messina.
Hi Teresa, I too have been looking at travel to Sicily next year. From what I've read, it's a 11-12 hour train trip or 10 hour ferry trip (if seas permit). I would rather use one of the airlines that deliver you right to Catania.
Check out Lonely Planet/Sicily for flight info. Airfares seem really reasonable (booked in advance) and you'd save so much of your vacation time. Ciao, Sherry
Thank you....We did look at the flights and we would have to wait at the airport for about 4 hours....so we thought we would try and see Pompeii or Sorrento for a day....but we may fly.
Thanks and good luck!
