Getting to and from Cinque Terre

Hello, I am having some trouble finding a fairly quick and direct route to and from Cinque Terre. I would like to go from the French Riveria (ideally Nice, but Avignon would work as well) to Cinque Terre, and from there to Venice. I only have a week in these areas and I'm having such a hard time finding a direct train or flight to and from Cinque Terre that I'm considering skipping it (which I definitely don't want to do!). Thanks for any help you can offer!

We are planning to visit the Cunque Terre and will be taking the train to Vernazza. You can also reach La Spezia by train, but then you have to take the bus to Vernazza. Visit this website http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en and plug in your starting point and your destination. If you select Vernazza as your destination, the train will take you to La Spezia and then you get a bus to Vernazza. I guess the train personnel have an arrangement with the bus station. Hope this makes sense. Enjoy your travels!!

It is NOT true that you have to take the bus to Vernazza. And from Nice you would not need to go via La Spezia. The bahn.de timetables show that from Nice you could go via Genova. The number of connections varies depending upon the time of day.
