Traveling from Florence back to the US via Rome in May (one continuous ticket). Proposed itinerary would give me two hours to get through the Rome airport for US bound flight. Is this doable? I don't know the airport but feeling it may be a little tight. Thanks in advance for your guidance.
Did you mean that you'd be coming from Florence the same day as your flight? If so, I'd want to be in Rome the night before but I might be more risk-averse than others. What time is your flight, and how are you planning on getting to Fiumicino?
When we returned via FCO two years ago, they did pull travelers out of the various lines if their flight was pending. (That did NOT happen in Frankfurt this year, we missed our connection!). Everyone was patient and helpful to each other in letting others "cut" the line if necessary. Safe travels!
PS if you are also returning a rental car at FCO, do not follow google map once you get to the airport - follow the rental car return signs. We ended up backing out of a "limo only" line after google had us turn in there! Yikes!
Flying out of Florence at 11:25 AM, arriving FCO at 12:20 PM. Connection to Denver at 2:20 PM. Although flying Air Italia from Florence to Rome, it's all booked through United Airlines. Does that change your advice?
Consider using the internet to check what gate and terminal that your Florence flight arrives and your flight to the US departs.
I think Flightaware is a site that helps.
You can take a look at a map of the airport and see how easy your connection will be.
The determining factor will likely be whether your flight from Florence arrives on time. If it does, you should be fine. You will arrive and depart from Terminal 1 if flying ITA, but proceed immediately to Passport Control and then to your gate .
2 hours is enough, assuming no major flights delays.
ITA Airways, now that Lufthansa is the major shareholder, will be part of the Star Alliance effective 1/1/2026, the same alliance United is part of. That is the reason for the one ticket all the way through.
The flight from FLR arrives at T1, which is actually 3 piers. This is T1, which includes those 3 big piers:

UA Flights generally depart from the T3 satellite (gates E31-E44), which implies the use of a short people mover ride. This is the T3 satellite:

It’s not too bad of a walk.
As above: you shouldn't have any issues as long as the flight from Florence is on time.
Thank you all.
