Does anyone know how long can I expect to wait at the TIM or Vodafon SIM card booths at FCO if | purchase a card and have them install it? I arrive at 9:30 AM . Do a lot of people go to get cards?
I am booking transportation and wanted to know if I should delay my pick up time.
Thanks
I don’t know of Vodafone is there, for sure TIM is. If the line is too long, you can very easily get to your hotel first and buy one at the many stores in the city.
2 years ago I bought my TIM card at the airport and there was no one in line. Arrived around 11:00am.
I used to buy a SIM card when arriving in Europe but these days it is so much easier paying my cell provider AT&T $10 a day, limit of $100 a billing period. My phone works when the planes wheel touch down. Yes it is a bit more expensive especially if crossing billing periods but so more convenient.
Thank you for the feedback. I will just have to wait and see and hope for short lines.
I arrived yesterday and the shop area of Terminal 3 is under construction. As you exit baggage claim, customs and immigration, make a left and TIM is tucked away in a little alcove. (Thanks to the young lady at the Trenitalia info booth for telling me!) My flight landed at 10:30 and the airport was busy. There was no one at the TIM counter. I prepaid for the card, showed the passcode I was sent and the very efficient young lady had me on my way in about 15 minutes. Car rental should have been that quick…
Editm Almost forgot that Vodaphone has 3 or 4 places in the same area to get SIMs. Without exception they were all very crowded. I also feel that the TIM Tourist card is the best offered.
That’s good info, Philip.
Thank you.
I need to go that particular TIM shop in September.
Perhaps the construction will be done by then…..
Thanks for the update. Did you prepay for your TIM card on the website?
Yes. That way the associate knows exactly what you need.
