I'm interested possibly getting married in Cortona, Italy but the more I read, the more it sounds like it will be too complicated. We want something very simple in the Town Hall and it will just be us,,,no friends, no relatives. There for a week in July and then home again. Thoughts or ideas?
I have seen other posts on here where people recommend that you hire a local wedding planner to guide you through all of the legalities. It is my understanding that getting this done in Italy can be very difficult.
IT can obviously be done as folks do it every day.
However there are some very specific hoops you have to go through to get a legal marriage accomplished in Italy. Some of them have to be done in the US before you arrive in Italy.
Here is a link to the US Embassy in Italy website.

Cortona is I believe in the Florence consular district. But i think that the Naples page does a better job explaining the procedure.
As has been said, quite a few folks abandon the quest and get married in a civil ceremony here in the US just before departure and then exchange vows again at a special spot in Italy.
