Getting into the center city takes 40 mins?!

Hi.
I am going to Rome in December and am trying to find a place to stay on Airbnb but looks like everything that comes up as an option is like 40 mins away (by train) to the center city. Is that normal?? That sounds like it's far to travel 40 mins every morning?

I tried putting center city Rome and Trastevere as the location when I'm searching on Airbnb but still, most of the options are estimated as 40 mins away via train. Can someone please let me know if that's a normal amount of time to get into the city?

Thank you!

The Rome airport, which is not that close to the city, is only 32 min away by train. The cruise port city of Civitavecchia, which is even farther than the airport, is only 45 min by Intercity train. Trastevere is just across the river from the Centro Storico, so it’s even walking distance. So I’m not sure what you are getting in the website. Have you located the property on the map?

It seems the inventory available is away from the central historical district, if that is all you are finding.

Do a search on Booking.com, add your filters, and you can pull up the map view to see how far from the city center the options for apartments will be located. A lot of people have already reserved their lodging, so it may be slim options by now. I booked some hotels this week for some Italian smaller cities for next May, and I was even running into a few dates where I needed to slide it two days earlier to get the place I wanted to stay!

In many visits to Rome, I have never had to commute by train.

Goodness gracious if you spend three quarters of an hour each way by train I might just as well stay in Orvieto.

I've had bad experiences with Airbnb so don't use them any longer.

Right, I can't imagine where they're sending you. I'd take a look at booking.com too (we don't use airbnb either). What are your dates?

hey hey yoojson
don't cut yourself short on airbnb, many others to look at. (booking.com, tripadvisor.com, trivago.com under apartments if hot wanting hotel) how many people, dates, filter your wants/needs.
you're really late on booking a place, it's 6 weeks away, many places booked up to year in advance & as others have said slim pickens left, more expensive & out of city center which adds time for train travel
airport is about 45+ minutes away then more travel time to accommodation.
you have to make decision what's more important option, staying further out or staying in city center
plus there will be crowds and busy for holiday times like everywhere else. good luck

Hello,
I am actually staying at an Air BnB in Rome in December....there are still many available. Yes, the City Center is about 30m minutes or so from FCO Airport....try putting in Colosseum in the search box and you should find what you are looking for. I've stayed in hotels in Rome as well but prefer Air BnB to have a washer as I travel with a carry-on only.
