Getting into Sicily

I am traveling to Sicily from the Amalfi coast if possible. I just do not know what is the best option timewise and moneywise. Any help?
Thanks

Your options include flying from Naples to a couple of towns in Sicily (Catania or Palermo). This is probably the best option. (Use Whichbudget.com to search for cheap flights on the lo-cost inter EU airlines.) You can train. When the train gets to So Italy, the whole thing is loaded on a barge and taken across the short distance to Sicliy. (The trip is long and tedious, but also can be done on a nite train. Part of the trip is spectacular.) You can take an overnight ferry from Naples to Sicily. We have done the plane and train...and prefer the plane. All of theses options are covered in many guidebooks(Lonely Planet, etc.) Do some reading, or post the same question on Trip Advisor.com. They have some Sicily experts that are wonderful.

You should be able to find one-way flights from Naples to Catania or Palermo for about $100-$140 (I checked last month).

We are working with Cherrye Moore in Calabria, and she recommended flying, and using the alitalia.it website instead of a .com. It is in Italian, but saved us several hundred dollars (for 4 people) on our flight from Italy to Catania! Jan
