I'm having trouble getting in contact with rooms in the Cinque Terre, specifically Vernazza. Is it common for Room Owners to leave for the Winter?

Sure, small place will close for a period of time. Some do not operate 24/7. And also if full, they often will not respond to emails simply because they do not have to.

Keep trying; don't get discouraged. The Cinque Terre is worth the trouble. Once you do secure a reservation, be sure to reconfirm a week or so ahead of your arrival. If you haven't tried yet, google Martina's Rooms in Vernazza to find their website.
