We are looking for a place to refuel our rental car before returning it to midcity Florence. We will be driving to the Oltrano to drop off our bags and then returning our car to the Hertz location on Borgo Ognissanti. Any advice would be much appreciated.

If you google "gas stations Florence Italy" you'll get a map and listing of stations. I would definitely top off just outside the city and then return the car. The few miles you'll drive are inconsequential. Also, when returning the car, make sure you'll pass through no ZTL zones where driving your rental is prohibited and ten months later get an expensive ticket in the mail.

I used the Sansovino Hertz office for my rental car. It's about 2 mi. from the train station via taxi.
I'd suggest staying completely out of the center city if your hotel is there.

Thanks Philip and David. Unfortunately I cannot use that particular Hertz office to repair my car. Would have been nice. But I will Google "gas stations Florence Italy" and see what comes up. Thanks for the ZTL warning. I think I've got that one covered.
