we will be flying in to Venice, Marco Polo, in September and have to get to the cruise terminal. Will appreciate any advice re cost of a taxi by road, or taking a water taxi. If by water, how long should the journey take and what approx is the fare?
There was a recent discussion of this topic under the "transportation" section. It looks like you posted under the "to the Boot" section. It was on 4/22/09 @ 8:06. Go there and see if that gives you some information you are looking for.
I don't think any one has listed a cost for a taxi. But that would be good amount to know.
Mal, this is very easy. There are two public bus lines that will take you from Marco Polo to the Piazzale Roma. ACTV and ATVO are the two bus lines. They have stops in front of the terminals. IMO, ATVO is better as you can put your luggage under the bus. The trip takes 20 minutes and the fare is about 3Euro. The Piazzale Roma is within walking distance of the ships. If its a nice day, you can walk it in 15 minutes. If not, I beleive that there are taxis that can take you to the ship.
Just to let you know, there are water buses and water taxis in Venice. The water buses are the large public vaporettos. They are very inexpensive but they don't go to the airport. The water taxis are private and would cost you 125Euro (for up to 6 people) for the short ride to the cruise terminal. ATVO - 3Euro. Water Taxi - 125Euro.
