We are leaving our rental car at VCE and need to get to Giudecca to start our bike and boat trip but the first night on the boat we overnight right in Giudecca for a day to visit Venice ... Reading and reading about my options I THINK I need a one way ticket on Linea Rossa from VCE to Giudecca PLUS a 48 hour ACTV ticket to get visit Venice - yes? Or is there an option that will get me from VCE to Giudecca AND allow transit into Venice? Thanks in advance. Donna
Yes, that plan works. Or if your car rental agency has a drop-off at Piazzale Roma, you could carefully drive there, not one kilometer over the speed limit, and continue by vaporetto/ACTV.
Thanks Laura.
Dropping cars in Piazzale Roma can be a challenge, give yourself extra time, especially on Sunday. From there a vap ride to Giudecca. Determine how many days (24 hours each) you will be in Venice. Then buy a vap pass for that number of days and ride it wherever and whenever you want. you can see the entire city that way. Do not by individual vap tickets unless you are only going one or two places, too expensive.
Also, if your hotel is on Giudecca it is very likely they have launches that run back and forth to San Marco. I know the Bauer does and the Cipriani.
We are driving from Bellagio and will drop the car at the car rental return at VCE than take the Linea Rossa. We are meeting the Ave Marie Boat for a bike and boat trip. Thanks for all the information. Ciao' for now - Donna
Just don't expect much of a view from the boat if you take the Alilaguna.
I understand I can buy vouchers online and trade them for our tickets at the stations.... or just buy the tickets at the stations. Is there an advantage to either of those options?
Nigel - just transport to our next stop not worried about sightseeing.
Thanks - Donna
Also look into multi day passes on Alilaguna, they had three different boat routes, that included transportation from the airport.
I don't think you want multi day Alilaguna passes to get get around in Venice, that's not very practical and expensive. The Linea Rosa goes once per hour and takes 1 hour and 19 minutes to get to Giudecca Zitelle. Considering that you could arrive at the the dock just to see the boat leaving, you'd have to wait 1 hour for the next one and arrive at Zitelle 2 hours and 19 minutes after you got to the dock. Then a 48 hour vaporetto pass would cost you another 30 EUR. The Alilaguna dock is about 600 yards from the airport exit door, although I understand there is a moving walkway recently installed for part of the way.
Or you could buy a combined 48 hour vaporetto pass plus a one-way bus ticket from the airport for 36 EUR. The bus goes from the airport exit door to Piazzale Roma, then take the No 4.1 vaporetto to Giudecca Zitelle. The bus goes every 15 minutes and takes 24 minutes to get to Piazzale Roma. The 4.1 boat goes every 20 minutes and takes 21 minutes to get to Zitelle. So again going through the worst case scenario, 15 minutes waiting for the No 5 bus, 24 minute bus ride, 5 minutes making the transfer, 20 minutes waiting for the 4.1 boat, 21 minute boat ride to Zitelle. Worst case 1 hour and 25 minutes, and you saved at least 8 EUR on the trip.
