Getting from Varenna to Castelrotto to Venice

Without a car.

Look like you need to go back to Milan Central. Are there buses that go straight from one city to another?

thnx

NanC,

If you're travelling from Varenna to Castelrotto, you will have to go back through Milano Centrale. That route typically requires two changes, one at Milano Centrale and one at Verona Porta Nuova. When you reach Bolzano, I believe you'll need to take a Shuttle or Coach to reach Castelrotto.

On the trip from Castelrotto to Venice, you'll again take the Coach to Bolzana and then train from Bolzano to Venice (typically one change at Verona).

I don't know about Buses on that route, as I've never checked.

Happy travels!

Thanks, not too p leased with that. Looks like I will be doing a lot of back and forth. Hmmmm, guess that is the only way.

Funny thing is, grdaughter is bringing a nice size suitcase, even after I advised against it. We will see how she manages !!

NanC,

You might remind your Granddaughter that SHE'S the one that will be hauling her behemoth of a suitcase around during rail travel. Mention to her that changing trains in Italy often involves going up and down stairs through a sotto passagio (tunnel) to get from one track to another. Sometimes there's only a few minutes between changes, so "bumping" a large suitcase down stairs and then again up stairs could more time than you have (one reason I prefer a Backpack).

Your Granddaughter might find it useful to read the "Packing Light" section in Europe Through The Back Door.

Good luck!

She has a mind of her own, an unfortunate family trait We have gone over this, I have sent her excerpts from Rick's pages. We'll see. She knows she will be handling her own suitcase. Maybe when she sees my backpack or light suitcase she will change her mind.

I think I would point out who is in charge. If you miss a train because she cant get there in time it affects not only her but you also.In 2001 my wife and I took her friend to Rome and florence for 8 days. When we told her carry on only she about had a heartattack but when I told her thats the way we are going and if she wanted to go along thats the way she had to do it.She went and managed just fine.

Well, I don't plan to be on a tight schedule. I am planning this trip to be as enjoyable as possible for the both of us. If she has trouble with her bag, she will deal with it. I am not an "in charge" type of person.

NanC,

I can appreciate your predicament! In most cases, teenagers have to learn "the hard way". After all, us "old people" don't know anything.

Good luck and happy travels!

Well, she is a good kid. There really is no predicament. I am just trying to make the traveling as easy as possible for the both of us.

She is so excited about going with me, warms my heart.

I am looking forward to a very nice trip.
