I will be staying in Siena in October and need to get to the international airport in Rome for my flight home. I have reservations at a hotel in the Airport for the night before my flight. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get to the airport from Siena. One option is to take the trains: from Siena to Florence to Rome Termini to the Airport. That sounds like a lot of trains. Second option: private transfer, but boy is that expensive. Third option is to drive. Rent a car in Siena and return it at the Rome airport. We will have a car in Siena to tour the countryside, but I'm a bit nervous about driving to Rome. Thoughts?
Fourth option: There is bus service Siena to Rome, I that would be the easiest.
Correct. Bus (Flix) from Siena to Tiburtina takes about 2:45, many times during the day. Price in advance is trivial. Tiburtina is, IIRC, 4 stops on Metro to Termini where you can get on the next Leonardo Express to the airport.leave the driving to them.
We took Flix bus from Siena to Rome Termini. Easy. An advantage of the bus is that it leaves from on top of the city of Siena while the train station is downhill.
If the bus takes you to the Tiburtina bus station, next to the Tiburtina train station, there are also several regional trains from Tiburtina to Fiumicino airport and only for 8€. No need to take the metro to Termini then the Leonardo Express.

And Tiburtina is easier to navigate (and with fewer thieves and pickpockets) than Termini.

And actually, from Tiburtina you can take the FL1 Regionale to the airport - cheaper and runs more frequently than the Express from Termini.
