Getting from Rome to the airport

We are signed up for the Oct 13-22 tour, ending in Rome. How far is the airport, and what is the best way to get there after the tour ends on the 22nd? Thanks!

Assuming you're going to Fiumicino airport, you can take an express train (Leonardo Express) that travels between Termini Train station in town directly to the airport. Of course, you'll have to get to the train station from your hotel. The airport is about 30 km from the train station, takes 30-40 minutes to get there. It's 14 euro per person. Here's the website: http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en/Services/Fiumicino-Airport

Depending on the number in your party and how much you can split the cost, a taxi may be worth it.

We took that same tour last year and took a taxi from Fiumicino Airport to our hotel - Hotel Lancelot and it was €48 for up to four people with luggage.

You'll get an email from RST a few weeks before your tour is scheduled to begin and it will include "Hotel Information" with specifics on getting from the airport or train station to your hotel. Good luck.

Thank you! We are getting ready to make our plane reservations so not sure which airport yet. We will be leaving from the Hotel San Carlo in Rome Sunday morning, and needed to know how much time to allow before making the return flight reservation.

A cab from the city center to FCO is a flat rate of 48 euros. Just round up to 50 if you want to tip. Our hotel arranged the cab to pick us up the morning of our flight.

EDIT: We also stayed at Hotel San Carlo. Nice place, excellent staff. Just tell the front desk you need a cab to airport. Alternatively, our RS tour guide arranged a shared shuttle for 7 or 8 people who were flying out around the same time.

I was on the Venice/Florence/Rome tour that ended on June 13, 2017. With a 9:30 a.m. departure out of FCO last week, I chose a taxi ordered by the hotel. Another couple on the tour shared the taxi, so that made the cost very reasonable.

I, too, stayed at the Hotel San Carlo in Rome. On the day before we left, we asked the front desk to order the taxi. All my interactions with the hotel's front desk were very efficient. The taxi arrived right on time.

Whenever flying out of Rome FCO to the U.S., try to take a flight around 10:00 am or slightly later. Many travelers take a 6:00 am. flight which requires getting up at 3:00 am and having a car take you to the airport so early. It's bad enough traveling 10-12 hours--without getting any or much sleep the night before. And after leaving so early, you end up flying to another major European airport and sitting around until noon until the flight leaves for home.
Your hotel is 3 blocks from the Spanish Steps--a very good, quiet location. I'd just have a car service pick you up there and take you to the airport front door--about 50 Euros. Hauling luggage through the Termini train station and from the FCO train station into the airport is such a hassle.
Note: I always shop for flights on MatrixITASoftware.com. Then I often will buy the flight direct from the airline.
You don't say which city you're flying out of, but you can find direct flights from FCO on: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonardo_da_Vinci%E2%80%93Fiumicino_Airport

The easiest and quickest way to get to the airport is to use the Leonardo Express which costs €14 PP and takes 32 minutes. You can also use a flat-rate Taxi as previously mentioned. I assume you'll be using FCO if you're returning to the U.S.

One point to note is that your guide will probably take a poll of tour members a few days prior to the end of the tour, to determine how soon everyone will be departing after the tour. H/she will usually coordinate transportation so that a few people can travel together and share the costs. Ask your guide about this when the tour starts.

In any case, it's very easy to get from Rome to FCO.
