I'm flying into Pisa from London, and need to get to my apartment in central Lucca (inside the wall). What the easiest way to get there? Can I take a train? And how to find the Pisa train station? Thanks!
Easy peasy on this one. Pisa is one of only 4 airports in Italy that has a train station in the airport. You'll find it. At the airport train station, buy a ticket to Lucca. You will receive two tickets as you will change trains at Pisa Centrale which is a 5-minute train ride from the airport. The whole trip will take you 45-50 min. Fare is 3Euro.
Even easier than the train is to take the bus directly from the Pisa airport to Lucca. Here's a link with the schedule: http://www.pisa-airport.com/index.php?lang=_en&id_sect=197.
As you can see buses leave every 30 minutes or even more frequently. Buy the ticket inside the airport (the sign for the VAI Bus window will be obvious) and walk outside through the main doors and to the right to meet the bus. In my opinion it is much easier than the train because the bus driver will put your luggage right under the bus and you don't have to worry about it until you get to Lucca. The trip is a little under an hour (more or less the same as the train), and you will be dropped off just inside of the walls in Lucca. It is a short and easy walk to anywhere you need to be inside the walls. Just ask the bus driver to point you in the right direction. Enjoy beautiful Lucca!
Thanks so much for the advice - very helpful!
