Getting from our Venice hotel to the Marco Polo Airport

We are looking at two possibilities to get to the airport mid-morning from our Venice Hotel (Marriott Boscolo Autograph Hotel). (Their website picture shows they have a dock right at their front door.)

One is getting a water taxi to the Venice Cruise Ship Terminal and then transferring to a land taxi to the airport. The other is just a direct water taxi trip to Marco Polo. I have read that the direct route can be (rarely) cancelled due to foggy conditions or rough waters. Which do you recommend?

It seems your book recommends Consorzio Motoscafi. Do you still recommend them? Their reviews seem to be mostly good.

The water taxi trip is fun and picturesque, if a bit expensive. Plus extremely convenient. Do it.

Water taxis and land taxis are always somewhat expensive, but it you afford it and the convenience is worth it, then go for it. If the expense is too much you can always take the vaporetto to P. and then the bus to the airport. Can furnish details about the vap. / bus option if you need them.

Gee, you're only 200 yards from the Alilaguna "A" line pickup spot at Orto dock. Its a straight shot across the lagoon to the the airport. 15 EUR per person or less if you prepay on-line. Picks up every 30 minutes and will have you to the airport in 30 minutes with no intermediate stops. So unless you are talking about 5 or 6 people, I'd go that route.

TC, Gordon, and Sam,

Thank you so much for the replies. Sam, my thanks for the very creative solution to the Airport Transportation issue we had.

I had seen that there was a dock there, but had no idea that we could catch a direct transfer to the airport from that point. I took some time to check it out on Google maps' street view, and "sur-nuf" it was an easy walk. The only issue at all is that the walkway appear to be constructed with irregular bricks, but the distance 190 meters is so close, I don't think that is a major problem.

I checked to see if it would be possible to take Alilaguna from the Cruise Port, but looking at the map on their website, there are way too many stops that will take too much precious time to make it worthwhile. Nonetheless, I give you an "A+" on your creative idea! For what it's worth, that and $2 bucks will get you coffee at McDonalds!

Thanks guys...Good stuff!
