Getting from Naples to Rome (FCO Airport)

I'm very excited to be going on the Best of South Italy Tour. However, United Airlines has changed our flight out 2x's already so that now we're scheduled to leave at 10:10 a.m. on the last day of the tour (9/24). My question is: should we try to get from Ponza (Naples) to the Rome airport the morning of 9/24 or would it be better to leave the evening before & stay in a hotel near the Rome airport? I hate to miss the last dinner on the tour but just not sure if we'd be hard pressed to get out of the Naples area in time for our morning flight? Does anyone have experience/suggestions?
Thanks for any help!

That means you need to be 8.10 am at Fiumicino airport. It's too early to travel from NApoli to FCO and arrive before 8.10.

I was afraid about that...I did find something thru Italia Rail that leaves Napoli Centrale at 0455 getting into FCO (after a transfer) at 0753. Just not sure if the rail system is reliable? Wish United hadn't changed our outgoing flight as the departure time was later originally...

It's wise to be at the airport three hours before a flight across the Atlantic. It's also wise to stay in your departure city the night before a flight home so you have multiple options for getting to the airport (train, bus, taxi). That said, there is an earlier regional train you could take out of Naples. Leave Napoli Centrale at 04:02 and arrive at Roma Termini at 06:23. Take the Leonardo Express to the airport, leaving at 06:52 and arriving at 07:23. If you don't want to wait for the Leonardo Express, you could take a taxi to the airport from Termini.

All, don't forget that the Express ends at T3 and you have to take the "crazy bus" from outside T3 to get to T5 where UA will be checking you in. If you stay in town, taxi direct to T5 or, if at one of the airport hotels, shuttle(if possible) direct to T5. Regardless strongly urge you to budget 3 hours to get through T5 and to your gate.

Thank you so much everyone for the useful info. I called United Airlines back & they were able to get us out an hour later (hard to get back home without a 10-hour plus layover apparently). We'll still head out at o'dark 30 and, hopefully with all the advice we'll be able to end this journey on a stress free note. Again, thanks so much for helping out a total stranger. :)
