Getting from Naples to Amalfi Coast

Hello - looking for some help. I am planning a trip for my friend who will be arriving in Naples from NYC on May 14th (11:00 am). She immediately wants to travel down to a town in the Amalfi Coast (she doesn't have a preference of town - very laid back girl). I am thinking Sorrento or Positano. She will want to do a day trip to Capri one day. What's the easiest way to travel from Naples airport to either Sorrento or Positano. Bonus if there's a link you could send me with schedules :) Would be open to train or ferry.
Thanks!

You may want to check out Praiano as an alternative to Positano (very expensive) or Sorrento (not on the Amalfi Coast).

You can get to Sorrento by train, the Circumvesuviana, or bus or private driver. You get to Positano by bus or ferry from Sorrento or the same private driver. Options are well explained in Rock Steves Italy guidebook. You should get it if you do not have it as it is a great reference to all things in that area.

I should add a ferry from Naples to Sorrento is also possible.

Travel to Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana train and staying for a few days with day trip to Capri or Pompeii is easy to do from Naples. Can then shift to Amalfi by SITA bus and day trip to Positano, Ravello, etc. Easier to return to Naples from Amalfi thru Salerno than from Positano (bus to Salerno, then train to Naples).

Although I have never used it, I have often read on this forum that there is an easy, low-cost bus line that goes direct from Naples Airport to Sorrento, a few times a day. People have recommended it, if the schedules fits with your friend’s flight’s arrival. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will respond to your post.

I'm pretty sure Praiano doesn't have a ferry pier, so that would be a poor choice.

Sorrento is not on the AC. It can be a good option, depending on what your friend wants to see and do. Getting to and of the towns on the AC, other than Salerno (which is a big city, but also a good base for the AC). Is she going to be in other places in Italy? Getting anywhere from the AC is time-consuming and requires transfers, often with more than one means of travel.

Keep in mind that she is going to be tired and in a jetlagged fog. There are a few direct buses to Sorrento from the airport. Other than that, the only way to avoid transfers is to arrange a private transfer.
