Getting from Manarola to Milan

Hi, I'm trying to get my family of 5 from Manarola in Ct to Milan and continue from Milan to Interlaken via Spiez. I have found on trenitalia that I can catch Intercity 666 (sounds ominous!) from either Monterosso or La Spezia in the morning. Each of these towns are about the same distance from Manarola as the crow flies, so it's not obvious which way we should head that morning to catch the train to Milan. First question is, does IC 666 actually stop in Manarola or bypass it? If it bypasses Manarola, what is the best way to catch IC 666 then? Thanks for any advice!

A quick look at the schedule shows that if you go to La Spezia, you'll need to leave at 8:30 and hang arround La Spezia station for almost 2 hours. Going to Monterosso, you can leave at 10:18 and have a 26 minute change there. the devil's train (666) bypasses Manarolo as it is an express (or semiexpress) train. Look it up on the Duetsche Bahn website. You can see the train # when you click on details, click on intermediate stops to see its stops, then click on the train number and get its full schedule, point of origin, destination, and sceduled arrival and departure time at each station.

Bryce, Since your ultimate destination is Interlaken, I'd suggest looking at the best overall route, rather than a segment-by-segment basis. There are a number of choices, depending on how many changes you're willing to tolerate and your preferred departure time from Manarola. The easiest trip (IMO) is a departure from Manarola at 06:32, arriving Interlaken Ost at 14:28 (time 7H:56M, 3 changes at La Spezia, Milano and Spiez, compulsory reservations on two legs). The next departure is slightly shorter, but has one additional change. If you use the trains that include IC 666, you won't arrive at Interlaken until about 18:30. I usually prefer getting to a new spot a bit earlier in the day, to allow time to get settled and have a brief "familiarization walkabout". Travel from the C.T. to Interlaken is going to be a long travel day in any case. I made that trip last September, so the details are still somewhat "fresh" in my mind. Happy travels!
