Getting from Lake Orta to Milan - is it that difficult???

I'm doing the Village Italy tour and will be staying one extra day at Lake Orta at the end. I read on tour comments that it is difficult to make it back to Milan. I looked on the train schedules and it looks to me like a train trip would be simple: Orta-Miasino to Milano Centrale with a change of train in Novara. Is this correct? Does anyone have any info on the difficulty of this trip?
Thanks,
Frances

Haven't done the trip, but it looks simple to me too. Several trains per day, about 2 hours, one change in Novara. Note that some trains arrive at Garibaldi station instead of the central station, but both stations are on the metro line.

Nope, that's the train route. Bear in mind that the train station in Orta is a bit of hike from the town center in Orta San Giulio - maybe a 30 minute walk.

We just returned from the Village Italy trip in mid-July and it was fantastic. I'm sure your tour guide will do as ours did and less than halfway asked for everyone's plans for the final day of the trip. She worked out transportation issues for everybody no matter where they were going. We stayed one more night and she got us to Stresa on Lake Maggiore with no problems. And helped us with a bus that would take us direct to Malpensa the next morning. Since you are staying one extra night (as did at least 3 people on our trip) the guide can work that out for you also. I am pretty sure you are correct about Novara being a train change stop. Orta was very pretty but we loved Stresa even more. And it was much easier to get directly from there to Malpensa to fly home and only 9 euros one way.
