Does anyone know of the best way to travel from Giardini Naxos to Palermo other than renting a car to get thete? Are there buses from Giardini Naxos to Palermo or a train?

Train (Trenitalia) and bus (Etna Trasporti) run between Giardini-Naxos and Catania
Train (Trenitalia) and bus (SAIS Autolinee) run between Catania and Palermo.

The train gives you two alternate route options.
1. From Taormina-Giardini to Catania, then another train from Catania to Palermo (through the interior)
2. From Taormina-Giardini to Messina, then another train from Messina to Palermo (all along the coast)
The first route is a bit shorter than the second (4+ hours vs 5+ hours), but I prefer the route along the coast.
The bus is maybe a bit faster. For the bus you would change buses at Catania and take the Catania-Palermo freeway through the interior.
