Getting from Civitavecchia to Siena, then back to Rome

We are de-barking from a cruise ship to spend a week in Tuscany, staying at a property outside Siena. What is the best way to get from the port to Siena? We want to rent a car at some point, to explore the countryside, and then get back to Rome airport to fly home. It's our first time in Italy, and we aren't too keen on driving in highly congested areas.

I assume you'll be getting off the ship at Livorno. If you're going directly to the countryside, I'd suggest you go ahead and rent a car in downtown Livorno. Europcar thru AutoEurope is cheaper than Avis, and the rates are not too bad. You can drive cross country to Siena bypassing Florence.
Many auto renters will return the car in another city and take a train into Rome--and the Leonardo Express train out to FCO.
