I'll be ending a land tour in Amalfi and must get back to Rome to catch our return flight home. It looks like we can take a boat/ferry from Amalfi (felt this would be more interesting than a bus and it's only 35 minutes) to Salerno and then catch GoEuro train (takes 2 hours plus) to Rome. Does this seem feasible and/or can anyone give input? Thanks very much.
As long as you're not doing this on your flight day it should be ok.
Remember ferries run April 1-October 31. And can be canceled due to rough seas. In that's case you would need to use the bus, which is 1:15m not the 45 of the ferry.

Use Trenitalia.com for train schedules.
This is helpful info. It's the day before our return flight, so we have some flexibility. Thank you very much! And I did get the tickets from Trenitalia.
