Getting around Siena

We're spending three nights in Siena coming from Florence. We are planning on arriving by train. I'm at a loss as to how to get to our hotel (Palazzo Ravizza located on Pian dei Mantellini) from the train station. We will each have a small carry on rolling suitcase. We don't mind walking but it seems like its quite a distance, especially with rolling suitcases. What's the best way to get from the train station to the area south of the Duomo?

You are basically across the city from the train station. At the station, the TI office can tell you if there is a bus, or if you should take a taxi; or you could contact your hotel or apartment manager for directions. Someone else may post with better info.

amy,

If you're travelling from Florence, use the Bus as it's an easier option that the train (about an hour if using the Corse Rapide Express Buses). You'll be dropped in the centre of town, rather than the bottom of the hill where the train station is located. Go to the hotel website and their "Find Us" section, type in "Piazza Gramsci Siena" and then click "Get Directions". It will show you the route and you should be able to walk.

If you'd rather travel by train, take a Taxi from the station. Very easy!

There's an escalator across the street in the shopping mall directly across from the main entrance of the train station that takes you to the north edge of the city then you walk south down the main street. It's not that far. I did it with 75lbs of luggage and used the train station parking deck for our car several days. Cheap parking. I'm not sure why this is so unknown on the RS forum. Does Rick still state you can't get into town easily from the train station? It's been there for at least 4 years that I know of. Maybe it's time to update the book if that's the case.

Thanks to all for the advise to use the bus. We definitely do that instead of taking the train. I'm guessing the walk would be down hill to the hotel from the bus drop off area. Which bus company is it, Sita?
