getting around in MILAN

through limited access, I had reservations for "the Last Supper" for 6:45 pm and tickets to LaScala 8 PM in FRI 5/11. Is this doable? How best to get from the Church to La Scala, Taxi? We'll be dressed for the opera. THX

Sure - unless there is a line, the Last Supper, at best, is a fifteen minute look. Check on a map. As I remember - it has been awhile - both sites are fairly close to each other and probably walkable.

That is a looong walk, especially in dress clothes, in a hurry. I would take a cab to La Scala. You want to be in and seated well before 8:00, and not stress about it. Part of the fun is the scene as the place is filling and the orchestra tuning up. And if you are late they won't seat you. What are you seeing?

Tosca. I am bringing my nephew and it is his 1st opera. I wanted SAT night tickets but the disappeared before my eyes. I had already booked the "Last Supper" tickets. Are Taxis very accessible at that time on a FRI evening?

As I said, it has been awhile - probably ten years and I thought we easily walked between the two. But I will drop that memory. Taxis are everywhere especially around popular tourist sites.

I'd say 2 km/25 minutes is very walkable. But not in dress clothes with time pressure. You can't count on getting in to the Last Supper on time, and can't be sure what time you will finish. Margaret, will you have a cell phone? If you do not see a taxi stand in the immediate vicinity when you get to the church for your Last Supper appointment, I suggest you have a taxi number programmed in (ask your hotel for a good taxi company) and call for a pickup.

Well that's good to know. Is there any chance the taxis will all be on break at that hour? One time we counted on catching a cab at a taxi stand and they were all on lunch break, so we had to call our hotel and have them call a cab.
