Getting Around Florence

My wife and I are planning to attend a nighttime futbol game in Florence. We have been to Florence a few times and always travel around the city by walking. The game gets out about 11 at night and we are staying about 5 miles away by the Boboli Gardens, so we don't really want to walk back that far at night through the city. We have never been to the area where the Artemio Franchi Stadium is, does any one know of an easy way to get back from the stadium?

Looking at Google Maps for bus routes after 11:00pm, buses would take a good 50 minutes or more and still need a fair amount of walking. A taxi or uber-like ride takes half that long. Someone here will know a good number to call.

I’d suggest contacting the hotel staff, or accommodation host, as they will most definitely know the answer to your question.

Enjoy your trip!

I know the answer too. But I’ll tell you only if you promise to wear the colors of the great Viola, which is violet purple.

There are special buses when there are matches, like the 52, but it goes to the SMN station. The best choice for yo, since you say you are staying near Boboli, would be the 11, which goes from Salviatino to Galluzzo and passes through Via de’ Serragli, in the Oltrarno, not far from piazza Pitti (Boboli). The only problem is that the last run departs from Salviatino (near the stadium) at 23:15 (11:15pm), after which you’d need to take the 52 special stadium bus to the SMN station or a taxi.

You’d need to walk to the closest bus stop on via Marconi, like here, then catch the bus.

You could also walk to the taxi stand in front of the Campo di Marte station here. The taxi stand is on via Mannelli, so you’d need to walk across the pedestrian walkway over the tracks to go to the side of the station entrance. Not sure if taxicabs will be standing there at that time but probably yes.

The Florence taxicab companies’ numbers are +390554242 or +390554390 both companies have apps you can use (AppTaxi or TaxiMove). Download them ahead of time.

Don’t try to walk to your place from the stadium. It’s safe, even at night, but it’s more than 2 miles, so it’s probably almost one hour walk.
