Is it possible to see much of Tuscany without driving? Rented a car before, and it seemed to take a long time to get around. Planning a trip for next month with a three day stop in Siena. Has anyone used public transportation out of Siena to visit Montepulciano, Fienza, Volterra, etc?

I used public transportation from Siena to get to San Gimignano, Radda in Chianti, and Florence. All was simple. I think that exploring Tuscany by car would be better, as you can catch a lot of little hill towns to simply stop for a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. However, you can make it many towns via PT (mostly buses except for the larger centers).
