Genova to Venice train ride

Hello travelers

Can anyone inform the best way to reach Venice from Genova in May and if is advantageous to buy train tickets in advance. Arriving in Genova early in the morning from a cruise. 4 travelers. Thank you in advance!

Look at trenitalia.com for schedule and prices. If you can commit to a specific departure time, you can save some money on the Freccia system. When are you travelling? The full schedule may not yet be up for Spring and Summer.

Hi right back at you! The schedule for May is, it seems, partially up. You're looking at somewhere between 4 and 7 hours of travel time with multiple train changes. I'd hold off buying tickets for a few months. Have a great time in Venice - absolutely my favorite 'experience' in Italy! Unlike a museum where you walk around looking at pictures, in Venice you walk around within the picture itself. For me it never gets old.

I don't know if the Genoa-Milan-Venice May schedule is partially or fully up. What I know for sure is that the full schedules will be up on December 15 and that no train sells out 5 months in advance. You can quietly wait for 3 weeks and then check both Trenitalia and Italotreno's sites to find the cheapest tickets.

According to the current timetable there is only one direct Freccia (#9796) train each day, that departs to Venice from GenOva PP at 7:03 AM. I'd keep my fingers crossed for more direct trains at more civilised times.

Note that both Trenitalia and Italo offer high-speed service between Milan and Venice, but only Trenitalia offers service between Genova and Milan.

There should be a direct train -- I went from Padua to Genoa without needing to change trains, and that train had started in Venice before me. So, unless they change the routes, you should be able to go Genoa to Venice without changing trains.

Yes, I just checked, there's 1 direct train that leaves in the morning.

Problem, of course, is that it leaves at 7 am and you probably can't get off the ship in time to catch it.

Right, but one does have the option of spending the day in Genoa and going the next day to Venice. Genoa would be worth a day's visit to meander the town or go to the aquarium, and it has some fabulous food.

Just an option.

Question,
Do 17 minutes is enough time to change trains in Milano Céntrale & Venezia Mestre? I know is based on how fast you can move but thinking on crowds.

17 minutes should be fine. Get off the train, walk to the head of the platform, then to your new track, then to your assigned carriage. Should take 10 minutes at most. You'll be walking with the crowds for the most part.

Any advantage buying directly from Trainitalia, than The Trainline?

Thetrainline will charge you a small percentage fee, mainly to cover the costs of a credit card transaction. Check that they are the same price as Trenitalia. Thetrainline has less stringent credit card vetting.
