genova anyone?

hi, there, We're leaving lake como in july and heading for the cinque terra for 3 days before heading back to rome. thinking about breaking the long train ride from milan to CT up. we been to milan in the past and also portofina. we thought about spending a day/night in genoa. rick has nothing in the 2013 italy book on Genova. as i recall, in the past when he's mentioned it, its been to 'avoid'. Any suggestions?

We took a 4 night break in Genoa last September and enjoyed our stay. Apart from a day trip to Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino we spent the rest of the time exploring the city ie churches, museums, harbour area etc. We stayed just by Piazza de Ferrari which, apart from being a pleasant area, was a good transport and walking hub. The tourist info site was helful http://www.turismo.comune.genova.it/spip.php?lang=en

rich, The train ride isn't really that long from Lago di Como to the C.T. Will you be travelling from Varenna? Rather than stop for a night in Genoa, the time would be better spent in the Cinque Terre (IMHO). Once you arrive in the C.T., you may wish you had booked more time there. Which of the five towns will you be staying in? You can easily make a day trip to Portofino from there. Happy travels!
