In mid-June we will travel by train from Avignon, France to Genoa including a one night stop in Ventimiglia. We have can spend 2, 3 or 4 nights in Genoa How much time do you think is worthy? I am wondering about a day trip to Portofino, Santa Margarita, and or Camogli, Cinque Terra looks amazing, but i think we will pass due to how over-touristed it sounds like it has become.
Figuring out how long to stay in each place seems challenging. We like finding a good home base where we can enjoy 3 or 5 days in an area. When we leave Genoa we plan to take the train to Bergamo for a few days and from there to Tirano to catch the Bernina Express.
