Genoa or Pisa?

I am in the planning stages of a trip to the Cinque Terre, and I'm not sure where to fly into and spend a bit of time - Pisa/Lucca or Genoa? Suggestions on which is better, and hotels would be appreciated.

Mary these places have both been discussed in the past couple of days. Perhaps you could scroll down for Genoa, and look around at lots of topics about the Cinque Terra towns. There is also a search feature here.

Lucca and Pisa are much more charming than Genoa. Genoa is a large city, kind of dirty, not a lot there. It is a sea port, so you can get to a beach, but none that large or quiet! No recommendations on hotels. I search using www.venere.com when I need a place to stay in a town. We enjoyed both Lucca and Pisa. Both are worth about a full day. Pisa, you could do in 1/2 a day just spending time at the Leaning Tower, take a hike up, see the Duomo and Bapistry. Lucca is really pretty, enjoy just getting lost in the walled town, visit all the churches, climb to the top of the one tower so you can see the roof tops and surrounding hills. perhaps rent a bike a ride around the town.... Both Lucca and Pisa are easy access via train if you don't have a car.. Perhaps stay in Lucca and travel to Pisa for a day to see the Field of Miracles.

Stay in Lucca and do Pisa as a short day trip. Lucca is beautiful and has all sort of medieval nooks and crannies to explore.
