Genoa- if visited, did you enjoy it?

For those of you who have been to Genoa, did you enjoy it? There are plenty of mixed/love-hate reviews, just like I read about Naples prior to my trip. I was pretty certain I would love Naples, and I did. Curious to hear from others about Genoa.

I love visiting cemeteries and just discovered the Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno in Genoa, one of Europe's largest cemeteries. It looks to cool to miss. I am not sure if a day trip from Turin would work as I can see myself spending many hours there.

When working on my rough draft itinerary I took a very brief look at Genoa, but the words industrial, gritty and one of the busiest Italian ports made me think I should pass it over, until I found the cemetery.

Once again, thoughts welcomed and always greatly appreciated.

It is more than two hours on the train one way, so too far for a day trip unfortunately.

We enjoyed Genoa. Best pesto on earth, great nautical history. Some wonderful neighborhoods. But it's a bit gritty, especially around the train station. We probably would've enjoyed it more had the weather been better; it rained pretty much nonstop when we visited.

We were in Genoa for 4 days and loved it. Did a fun food tour, visited the Palazzos, churches and the Cathedral. Skipped the Aquarium as we were not interested. Took the train to Nervi in late afternoon to wander - then had aperitivo and dinner near water. Had great cocktails at Le Rouge Cucina. Fabulous dinner at 7 Sensi cucina decontaminata. Lots of street food. Visited Mercato Orientale. Took elevator for the great view at Spianata Castelletto - had spritz while the sun came down and a delicious pizza. I don't know if a day trip is enough time to really get a sense of the place. Depends, I guess, on why you want to visit.

Roberto, I am working on my rough draft itinerary. I currently have 4 nights for Turin without any day trips planned. I do agree that Genoa is a bit far for a day trip.

I am currently looking at Genoa's attractions to see if there is enough to interest me to even consider a stop there, which of course means tweaking my itinerary again.

One of the highlights of my Florence visit was the Porte Sante Cemetery, where I spent at least two hours walking, reading the headstones and photographing the funerary art. It was a must-see for me and I'm pleased that I did not miss it. The monumental cemetery in Genoa looks well worth a detour/tweak in my current plan.

We stayed a week in Nervi to visit Genova and surroundings. We liked it.
Yes, except for Boccadasse, it's not a picture postcard sort of place but it's worth a few days, the Palazzi dei Rolli area is Unesco too.
