I am trying my best to track down where my great grandparents were from. I have attempted to use Google translator to email a certain town, but with no luck in getting an answer. Does anyone know of a reputable source either in the US or in/around Naples that I could contact to help me search out more information.
Do a Google search for "Acquiring Records from Social Security for Genealogical Research". For $7. you can get a copy of their S.S. applications which will be in their hand writing. One of the questions was "What city were you born in?". That is a good start.
My wife has done quite a bit of geneological searching for both sides of our family. If your relatives came through Ellis Island that would be a good place to begin your search. Those records usually contain the names of towns where the immigrants came from. If they were married in this country the marriage certificate might tell what town they came from in the old country. Some municipal libraries have geneological research capabilities. That would be a good place to start too. Then, there is Ancestry.com. There is alimited amount of information free on that site, but you can become a subscriber for a fee, and that might allow you to do some helpful digging.
