Hi,
Does anyone know how the prices of regular gas versus desiel fuel compare in Italy?
Which one is cheaper and more efficent?
Thanks,
Bridget

Get a diesel. Cheaper and generally the cars get better mileage.

Get a diesel. Like others have said, it's cheaper in the long run, just as clean, more efficient, and more widely-available than diesel.

The key is to know the proper term for it, because it's not "Diesel". I forget what it is. Rick's guidebook should tell you.

thanks, Adreas. I remember being confused because "gasolio" sounds like "gas" which in America we say "gas" for unleaded and "diesel" for diesel.

Realize however it is not easy to get a diesel rental. Of the last 7 rentals , I got a diesel twice and once it was in a compact size instead an economy
car.

We always hope for a rental car that uses diesel but I don't think you can request one. More often than not we have been lucky enough to get a diesel fueled car--and they seem to be cheaper to drive.

JS, I have never had a problem getting a diesel rental. In fact, I have never asked specifically for a diesel rental and I have ALWAYS had diesel.

Like Jarrod, I have never had a problem getting a diesel. I book my car in advance through gemut and always request a diesel with a standard transmission. I have gotten to the rental company and was told they did not have the make I had requested but they replaced it with something comparable in size or offered an upgrade but still a diesel.

Just be certain, whatever vehicle you get, that you put in the appropriate fuel- diesel is not good for gasoline cars: benzina (gas) vs ???

Diesel will save you money. It's about a dollar cheaper per gallon than gas. The diesel cars in Europe are smooth and quiet and get great mileage.
