Gallipoli

Has anyone taken the train from Gallipoli? Ending an 8 day trip in Puglia area and looking for suggestions for a good couple days somewhere...departing from the Gallipoli train station. Sorrento? Positano? Capri? Any thoughts appreciated.

My plans when I spent about two weeks in Lecce included a couple days in Matera on the drive (not exactly a direct route) back to Rome. My plans changed and I skipped Matera. I hope that you go and let us know all about it.

allison, Any of the places suggested would be good. Which one to choose will depend to some extent on your interests. Matera is a great suggestion, but as I recall you'll need to use a different rail line to reach there. The old historic area ("The Sassi") is where the movie The Passion of the Christ was fillmed. For a really authentic experience, you can stay in a "cave" at Hotel Sassi. The locations on the Amalfi coast would also be excellent, although you'll probably find they'll be a bit more "pricey". If you use Sorrento as a "home base", you can easily take day trips to Positano, Capri, Pompeii or Vesuvius. What time of year will you be travelling there? Happy travels!
