We are interested in visiting ONLY the Gallery of Modern Art at the Pitti Palace. I remember years ago just walking up and buying a ticket. Is it still possible to buy a ticket for only that museum, or do I have to buy a combo ticket? Do I have to make a reservation? From home or when there? Also, this will happen on a Saturday, if that makes a difference.

The Boboli Gardens are extra and require an additional payment. Those are the only tickets offered.
Right. They don't offer separate tickets for each of the museums which are located in same structure (Chani listed). If the issue is cost, though, there is this walkup ticket:

We walked up and bought tickets on a Saturday afternoon in May. There were about 3 people in line ahead of us. There were several galleries that were closed when we visited. The Imperial & Royal Apartments and the Museum of Costume & Fashion were closed; the Treasury of the Grand Dukes is set to reopen again in September with limited time and space.
