I am visiting Florence for the first time in April and I have pre-booked a trip to the Gallery Accademia at 2pm and a visit to the Pitti Palace starting at 4pm - I've just looked at both venues on my map of Florence and they look a fair walking distance apart (we will be walking to the Pitti Palace from the Gallery Accademia). Is this going to be enough time to see the main attractions at the G.A. and walk to the Pitti Palace for 4pm? I'm a bit concerned I haven't left enough time between the two (I am only there for 3 days and am trying to cram as much in as possible!) Any feedback most welcome please! Thank you.
An hour is enough for the Accademia Gallery. I would allocate 30 minutes to walk to get to the Pitti Palace (Google says 21-23 minutes).
The Accademia is not a large museum at all, to be honest, most beeline for David, take a cursory look around, and out the door. So you can certainly satisfy your David need, then gage your time in viewing the rest of the collection. There are some unfinished Michelangelos, a cast of another, and some other interesting pieces along the way. As long as you leave yourself 30-45 minutes to get to Pitti Palace, you will be fine.
I agree with Mary. Florence historical center is very walkable. I've never needed more than an hour in the Accademia, and yes, you should be able to walk to Pitti Palace totally within you time frame. Enjoy!
thank you for all the replies, very helpful, means that I can leave my bookings as they are and I should be safe enough!
