Galleria Borghese questions

Hi everyone,

I have been researching and researching for at least a year (probably more) and my trip is finally here - leaving Tuesday. Just a couple of questions regarding Galleria Borghese that I thought of today when reviewing my ticket purchase.

-Tickets are purchased and I received the e-mail (all in Italian) but there was not attachment. I believe I selected to pickup the tickets but what key word or phrase should I look for on the e-mail to confirm this.?

  • I remember reading somewhere that there is a book that can be purchased at the gift shop that will is informative as a guidebook - I tried to find the name through a search but was unable to. Any ideas?

Thank you in advance,

Lidia

Hi Lidia
I went to Borghese a few years ago with a reservation. I printed the confirmation email and brought it with me. (It was just the email in Italian, no attachments)
I don’t remember much of the details, except that it was an easy process. I showed up a bit early and checked in at the desk. From there, they gave me the entry ticket and asked that I wait for them to call on everyone for that time slot. There’s a fairly large gift shop on the same lower lever, and you could easily buy a guidebook or whatever else (before or after your tour begins).

When the tour begins, you may be part of a group of say, 50 people +/-. Don’t travel with the pack. Let them get ahead of you, then you can stroll and have the place to yourself!

As a side tip, it’s a decent walk from the gardens to the museum, so allow time for that too. Google is pretty accurate resource for travel times from point A to B too.

Have fun, the sculptures are amazing.

We just did this last week. Bring your confirmation email to the ticket counter and they will give you your tickets. Your email should have some kind of confirmation number.

It's not a tour (although there are audio tours you can get). They open the door at the appointed time, and you are all free to explore. You do need to check in large purses or backpacks. My small cross body bag was ok to bring in w/me.

After the gallery, we took about a 20 minute walk through the garden to Terrazza del Pincio for a nice view of the Vatican.

Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes in advance. You'll probably need to wait in line a few minutes to pick up the tickets, then another line if you need to check a bag, then another line to rent an audio guide (it's good), then get in line to enter. The closer you are to the front of that line, the more time you'll have in the galleries.

BTW if you are late to pick up your tickets, they may sell them to someone else.

Confirming Chani’s recommendation: the audio guide is excellent.

Also, go to the second floor first, rather than following the crowd to the sculpture gallery. Spend 45 minutes — but no more than 60 — upstairs. Then as people are beginning to make their way up, you go down and have less of a crowd to contend with for viewing the sculptures.

Hi Lidia
Perhaps copy and paste the contents of the email into Google Translate and choose Italian to English might be of some help

The email or attachment will have the time and date of the visit, the number of persons, and a confirmation number. It's mildly confusing as it is in Italian only. Get there early, walk into the very small door and go to the desk on the right; they will issue the tickets. Then, check your bags, including purses. You don't need to carry stuff around on your very short visit. The audio guide is all you need to enjoy the experience. The gift shop is well supplied, and don't pass up the cafe and a cup of espresso to unwind after your visit. It's a people friendly museum and the Bernini and Caravaggio pieces will humble you.
