Gah! Where to start?!?! Newcastle, UK to Florence

My girlfriend, who married and moved to Newcastle last year, has just surprised me to say that for my trip over to see her for her birthday in Early October we're going to Florence for 5 to 7 days. I was so excited!

I love to plan, love to find all the options and good stuff. But the one thing I don't have in my arsenal is a good travel site for booking flights WITHIN Europe. Suggestions? I don't know if their game for the super-cheap flights that are out there, but I'll look at those as well.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

NO real cheap flights into Florence to the best of myknowledge. you might have to look at flying into Pisa...that is where most cheap flights go into

Yeah, I noticed the Pisa option right away. You have to be careful shopping out of non-major airports. You can get excited to save money by flying out of Edinburgh instead of Newcastle, and into Pisa instead of Florence. But by the time you buy bus or train tix, and account for lost time, it may not be worth it.

The hunt continues! Thanks for the links everyone. :) Are there any "major" airlines out there that don't allow their listings on Expedia & the like? Like Southwest here in the states doesn't take part.

Hi Heather...

What a great time you'll have.

Check Ryanair.com ...usually very good deals.

Take care,

You can fly from Newcastle (NCL) to Pisa (PSA) on www.jet2.com. Pisa is one of three airports in Italy that has an express train from the airport to the main train station. The ride takes 5 minutes. The train from the Pisa Airport to Florence (including the train transfer at Pisa Centrale) costs 5.70Euro.

If you want the budget airlines, research and buy early. The earlier you purchase, the cheaper the fare. Carefully read the luggage and weight requirements on the web page.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. Unfortunately:
Jet2
Newcastle to Pisa - none
Leeds to Pisa - no return
Edinburgh to Pisa - none

RyanAir
Newcastle to Pisa - no route
Leeds to Pisa - no route

However, there are flights from Edinburgh to Pisa. Now I just have to read their ginormous list of fees and see if we'd really save any money. Can girls pack 5-7 days worth of clothes and accessories in a carry on? :) It is her bday afer all, we're going to want to look nice. :) :)
