Ricks books don't cover these towns well - does anyone have any suggestions for inexpensive accommodations in these towns?

Actually, I don't think Rick's books cover these two places at all. The only 3 topics we've ever had on Gaeta are here:clickclickGo to viamichelin.com, input the place name, check hotel, then Search: if there are Michelin recommended hotels in those places they will be displayed. Isn't there an American military installation at Gaeta and is that related to why you're going there?click
