FYI for Rome

We were just in Rome a few weeks ago. Be aware that the Egyptian exhibit at the Vatican Museum is currently under refurbishment and closed to the public. The Trevi Fountain exit on their metro system is also currently closed, take the Spanish Steps exit instead and walk 5 minutes to the fountain. The Bernini Museum is worth making a reservation for, if you don't get tickets ahead you will not get in to see the artwork (was sold out for the next 7 days when we were there). Also beware that they are no longer taking the Roma Pass at this museum.

To add to jrietz004's helpful post....

That's the Barberini metro station, it has been closed for some time, and is reported to be closed for quite some time yet so yes, use the Spagna station if using the metro. Neither station would get you RIGHT to the fountain without a walk of a few blocks.

Yes, you DO need to reserve your timed-entry ticket to Galleria Borghese in advance. This is particularly important for visits during high season when available slots book up very quickly but pretty much applies any time of year. Do not wait until you get to Rome! The Roma Pass quit covering entry to this attraction back in June. For tickets from the official website in English:

As of early September, both the Barberini and Spagna stations were closed due to issues with the escalators. I think a third central station is also closed. The B line Metro is virtually useless.

At least currently, the Roma ATAC website is listing Spagna as open (Barberini is not listed).

From certain parts of the city, Metro B line can be useful for accessing the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine (Colosseo stop), Circus Maximus and attractions on the Aventine (Circo Massimo stop). Also, the Protestant Cemetery, Pyramid of Cestius, and rail line change from Metro B to Porta San Paolo for trips Ostia Antica (Piramide stop).

Spagna may well have re-opened, and to clarify, from where we where, Line B was essentially useless. :)

Ah, that makes sense, Simon: line B may not be all that useful depending on where you're at and where you want to go. :O)
