It's the alliteration girl again. I just read online of the violence going on in Rome over the disc jockey that was shot. So, how well do the tour guides skirt upheavals that occur? We'll be in Rome Dec 2-8. I guess I'm asking what the typical cooling period is for international heat? Whether we'll be safe, or, will we be having a week long day tour outside Rome's offerings? It's our first trip and, yes, I'm nervous.
The stadium is located away from the sights so anything going on there will not effect you. Please keep in mind that most of the football fans while passionate, are not violent. It's a few crazies that cause problems. You will be fine.
The rioting across the country is very similar to what happened after the Rodney King verdict in LA. This is a reaction to the police killing of a fan at a highway rest stop earlier in the day. Murder is something that is taken very seriously/emotionally in Italy, and ironically violent rioting can occur. I'm sure things will calm down in the next three weeks and it will have zero impact on your travels.
Rome, and most of Italy, relies too much on tourism to allow rioting to go on. Things will be calm very quickly.
There were drunken Dutch fans in Florence when we were there and, believe me, the cops show up fast and in force.
