Four of us are traveling to Italy in a couple weeks and in order to encourage picture taking we were thinking of having a photo contest. I have a few ideas for categories, but was wondering if anyone has some other ideas........Mine are: Best picture of a group Best picture of a stranger Best self-portrait Best picture of a building

Capturing the essence of the trip (like best of show?)... You'll want to be careful with the picture of a stranger. People have really mixed feelings about taking pictures of other people. Search the archives for more info on that one! :-) For more ideas, you might want to check out the Daily Photo Blogs. There's a group that blogs a photo a day, and they often have a communal theme day. It's fun to see how differently the different bloggers interpret the themes and they can give you some fun ideas to look out for. One of my favorites is the Paris Daily Photo Blog. (parisdailyphoto.com). He usually participates in the theme days, but also takes unique photos that might inspire other ideas for you. This sounds like a fun idea; I hope it works out well for you!
