We want to get to St. Peter’s early, at 7:00 when they open if possible.
Then we have a Scavi tour at 11:15 and a timed entry for the Vatican Museums at 3:30 but we plan to arrive early for that maybe 3:00.
Where can we eat in the immediate area? Our entry to the museums is too late to eat inside because we want to use that time to look at art!
Thanks for any suggestions of close places to eat a good meal or any other suggestions about this busy day.
Try Borghiciana Pastificio Artigianale, it’s a couple of blocks from Saint Peter's Square.
Don't wander into a place randomly without at least checking its rating on Google Maps. An experienced poster has warned there are quite a lot of bad places very near the Vatican.
Thanks for these suggestions!
Very helpful.
The restaurant mentioned sounds great. They do not take reservations. Any idea of how busy they get at lunch time?
Any breakfast places very close?
How is the cafe at St Peter’s? I think you have to climb the dome to get to it, is that right?
My recommendation came from a nice time at the Osteria dei Pontifici, but I know that you won't be ANYWHERE near that side during your day. We had finished at the Vatican after a tour and I was DETERMINED to not eat at a touristy place and so I just kept walking past the walls and ended up FAR away. My family and I enjoyed it, food was good (and I think we had something awesome for dessert?), they called us a cab to get home after a DELUGE came after we were the last ones to finish up lunch. We heard a lot of Italian being spoken (the google reviews say they "speak enough" Italian to communicate), but since it was so long ago, all I know is that we enjoyed ourselves.

We were four at lunch time and don't remember waiting too much.
We recently enjoyed a quick bite at Be.Re. + Trapizzino, Piazza del Risorgimento, 7/A. It is 6 minutes from the Vatican Museums, 10 minutes from St. Peter's square, so should be convenient and quick.
If you don't mind grabbing something to eat from a market, there is one named Mercato dell Unita on Via del Gracchi, a few blocks east of the museum entry. Inside there is deli with several fresh baked items to chose from. I had to wait about an hour for my timed entry at the stair area between 2 buildings around the corner from the market, so it was fast and easy. I ate at the stair area while I waited to get into the museum. The food was delicious and I got to meet a few locals (that helped me) in the market too. That was in June 2022.
