I have a few days in June before I fly out of Venice. Does anyone have any ideas on the Friuli region?
Thanks, Mary
I haven't been to that area yet, but I have about eight pages of condensed notes on towns to visit and places to see. FVG sounds like a promising destination. These seem to be the towns with the most sights:
Trieste (but it's as far from Venice as you can get)
Udine (medieval/Renaissance center)
Aquileia and Grado (a lot of Roman stuff)
Cividale del Friuli (Lombard stuff)
It seems there are also a lot of attractive Alpine villages.
I've visited Friuli already and it is a treat. You could easily spend some weeks there.
Trieste and Udine are great. The waterfront villages like Grado are very beautiful as well. Of course we've spent time in San Daniele - must visit for Prosciutto lovers. Villages like Aquileia, Palmanova, Cividale and Venzone are for sure worthwhile paying them a visit.
