From Western Switzerland to Cortino d'Ampezzo Italy

I am leaving Switzerland and am trying to find the best way to travel to the Dolomites in Cortino d'Ampezzo, Italy. I am starting in Spiez, Switzerland (west) and going east. I would like to find out the best way hoping I don't have to go to Venice. I suppose I need info on the bus/train to Calalzo di Cadore and the availability of buses into Cortino.

Thanks so much for any help.

One route would be trains to Zurich, then Innsbruck, then Fortezza/Franzensfeste, then Dobbiaco/Toblach, then the 445 bus to Cortina. Its a 10 hour trip. Leave at 6:54 am and arrive Cortina at 4:55 pm.

Edit. The same route is also available 2 hours later, 8:54 am to 6:55 pm,
Another route via Milan and Verona leaves at 8:36 am to 6:55 pm with one less train connection.
The route via Venezia Mestre and Pieve di Cadore takes about 11 hours.

Thanks for your reply. It seems you've really got to want to go to get there. I am determined and your reply will certainly be a great help.

Natalie,

Another method would be to travel via fast trains from Spiez to Venezia Mestre. One of the quickest trains is a departure at 08:05, arriving at 13:58 (time 5H:53M, 1 change at Milano Centrale).

When you arrive at Mestre, rent a car and drive from there to Cortina d'Ampezzo (about 2 hours). Note that you'd need the compulsory International Driver's Permit which is used in conjunction with your home D.L. You can easily obtain an IDP at any AAA office for a small fee. You'd also need to be aware of the ZTL (limited traffic) zones when driving inside any towns (hefty fines).
