from Venice to Vernazza

What's the best way to get from Venice to Vernazza? Any recommendations on where to day-trip from Vernazza?

Train. Takes about 6 hours, 3 trains. Go to www.trenitalia.com and get an idea of schedules. Probably want to leave Venice by 0900 becasue most places in the CT expect you to check in by 1600. From Vernazza it is easy to see the other 4 CT towns. If you are there 2 or 3 days, seeing the towns (Rick Steves' guide has nice self-guided walking tours of each of the 5 towns), hiking the CT trail, or taking the ferry between towns will fill your days. If you are there longer using Vernazza as a base, you can go to Portofino or even Genoa, Pisa. Lucca.

We did that last fall and I remember that you"ll have to choose between arriving at the CT from the North or from the South. Two different routes from Venice. We were recommended from our B&B owner to come from the North which we did by way of Milan. I think it was either one less train change or it was quicker. I think one less change.
