From Venice to...

We end our 12 day cruise in Venice and are thinking of extending a day or two. Would you advise leaving Venice and heading to Lake Cumo area, if so would car or train be better.
Thanks to any insights.

If only a day or two you should stay put in Venice. If you stay an additional 3 nights you could venture outside. But have you seen everything of Northern Italy already that you need to go all the way to Como?
How about other areas within the Veneto region? For example: Padua, Verona, Lake Garda, Dolomites, etc. they are all closer to Venice.

If you've not stayed several night in Venice then by all means spend your time there. It's wonderful in the evening after all of the daytrippers and cruisers evacuate the place.

If you've never been to Venice, then plan to spend at least two or three days there. It is a city unlike any other.

With one or two days only I would stay in Venice, or perhaps the Dolomites or Padua.
You would want 3 or 4 days for Como at least to make the journey across to Milan worthwhile.

If you don't see Venice at night you really haven't seen Venice. The masses from the cruise ships during the day kill it for me but at night it is wonderful. I'd extend longer and head to Tuscany or just stay put and relax. Get off the main tourist areas by day.
