From Trieste to Como - Where should we stop?

Hello everyone!

My mother and father (both healthy but in their 60s) and my brother (28) and I (31) will be taking a trip to Europe next year and I am planning out different options. One option I am looking at is a road trip through Austrian Alps, the Italian Dolomites and Slovenia then coming back through Italy by way of Trieste and then driving to Lake Como. We have traveled Italy many times, so anything like Venice or Milan we have spent time in before. But there are many cities on the way from Trieste to Como I have never been to: Padua, Asiago, Verona, Vicenza, Portogruaro, Aquileira, etc. If anyone has recommendations on must see attractions, restaurants, museums, experiences - I will take any and all recommendations.

Thank you so SO much!

Padua: Scrovegni Chapel (pre-book), Sant'Antonio, Palazzo della Ragione, produce market outside the palazzo, university, botanical garden, Palazzo Zuckermann, Musei Erimitani.

In addition to the Palladian architecture in Vicenza, there are Palladian villas along the Brenta Canal.

In addition to the places already on your list, you might research Treviso and Bassano del Grappa to see whether they might appeal. I hope to see them on a future trip to northeastern Italy.

Verona's walkable traffic free old town is a lovely, genteel town in the curve of the Adige river with many restaurants, cafes, piazzas and shopping. Ignoring the Romeo and Juliet "attractions" it has a huge Roman arena that is still used for performances - particularly opera - and well preserved Roman Theater with a good Anthropology Museum attached. The San Zeno church is very interesting but is not a huge cathedral. It is light on "sights" but is a wonderful city to visit and enjoy the sense og elegant decay the Veneto does so well.

Brescia has Roman ruins, a castle, two cathedrals and looks like it has an otherwise interesting old section of town. I going for the first time next month so I'll know more in a bit but it's on my list.
